Autumn in New York 2022
In just 2 weeks I’ll be headed back to New York City for the second edition of Autumn in New York. I teach this class with my flower bestie, Courtney from Winsome Floral. It’s crazy that we only met each other less than a year ago and we’ve already travelled to NY, France, Korea and Japan together! This is what flowers do though, they bring people together and create quick and strong bonds. I always say, “flower people are my people”, and that rings true each time I teach a class and connect with new florist friends from different parts of the world. There are some very distinct similarities you will always find when you are around flower people. Because of the nature of this job, they are always incredibly hard working, care about aesthetics, excited by colour, obsessed with nature and seek out beauty at every opportunity. All so relatable to me! This group was no exception and I had the best time meeting these students and teaching with Courtney.
We were lucky enough to host the first day of classes at the iconic Dutch Flower Line in the heart of the NYC flower district. It was a full circle moment for me because I remember visiting the NYC market and meeting Chris from DFL years ago before I was a florist, just wishing and hoping to be a part of this world one day. We held day 2 at the historic Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn with a beautiful farewell dinner at Celestine overlooking the sparkling city skyline. The following morning we were up early with coffees and pastries in hand for a guided tour of the NYC flower market. This experience for me was restorative, inspiring, hopeful and necessary and I can’t wait to get back to one of the greatest cities in the world!
